Big baits remain an overlooked lure choice in the bass world, and this is a mistake according to pro bass angler Chris Zaldain. A tactic he often uses, even on heavily pressured tournament water, is to saddle up to a good size swimbait like the 6” Megabass Magdraft and target bass on high-percentage spots like main lake points, grassline edges and flats.

Well-balanced soft body swimbaits are an excellent substitute for more common horizontal baits like spinnerbaits, vibrating jigs and shallow diving crankbaits. Bass don’t see a lot of big baits so aren’t as conditioned to them, and the biggest ones have a hard time resisting an oversized meal.
